Welcome to the 4x4 Section.

1976 Range Rover 3.5 v8

I was told about this from a friend who's customer had split from her husband and was wanting to get rid of his car which turned out to be this Range Rover, of course it came along at a cheep price. I must admit though as good as the Rangy is I did not keep it for long, I just could not get on with the agricultural manual gearbox that was fitted to this, it just made driving it so much hard work (give me an auto any day).

I personally believe (I know someone will disagree with this) that the Range Rover classic, Defender and the first Discovery are the only vehicle that can be driven out of the show room and off road without any mods (when I say mods I mean mechanical not tyres). All other vehicles will need some sort of modification to bring it up to the same standard of the Land Rover mark. This is not saying that the others cannot be driven off road, but not to the same capability as Land Rover without the mods, the other big name for off road, until recently with the TJ model, had to have mods, this is of course the all concurring JEEP.

I believe that the 4x4 of today has be come sanitised, all in the name of comfort on the road for those who the nearest off road they will get, will be the supermarket car park. The true 4x4 is nearing the end, with all their electronic gizmo's, most of today's cars don't even have low range, and if they did the owners wouldn't know how to use it or what it was for!! hark at me I'm getting on my soap box, I'll have to stop now before I really get on one.
