1989 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3 4x4
We bought this back in 2001, from a guy in London
who claimed it was in perfect condition. For the next month we spent
putting things right, so that everything worked as it should. September
of that year we went to Scotland to take part in the Bulldog Challenge,
we drove the chevy there and back no probs, the fuel consumption
was far better than I had hoped and never missed a beat.
When home I started to notice a noise coming from
the rear and on inspection found that the diff had almost destroyed
it's self, we think part of the LSD had broken and the bit had fallen
into the diff its self, destroying the planet gears and then bits
from this went into the bearings. The whole diff assembly was rebuilt
with all new parts costing £850 and this right at Christmas,
I found later it would have been cheaper to have put an after market
replacement diff in.
This car has driven faultlessly ever since (bar for
a hiccup with the distributor) and still returns fuel figures for
knocking around town/short journeys of about 17mpg and on runs we
have seen 24mpg.
